On October 2, 2010 just at sunset, the world lost another of its last truehearted cowboys, Wayne Franklin Rudy.

Wayne was born in Logan, Utah on October 18, 1923 and started chasing wild horses in the deserts of Eastern Utah soon after. He loved growing up in the wilds of the Uinta Basin, breaking horses, hunting deer and elk, and lumberjacking with his father in the Uinta Mountain.

He had a deep and abiding love for America too, so when his country entered the war in Europe, Wayne joined the military and landed on Utah Beach several days after D-day. He participated in liberating France, the Battle of the Bulge, and the march into Germany.

He always considered his time in France the most serendipitous of his life because that was when he met his great love and passion, the beautiful Micheline Germanangue. They were married in Marseille, France on November 7, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Bern, Switzerland temple.

After the war, Wayne made a twenty-year career of the military, where he was stationed at many posts throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. He finally retired and moved his family to Provo, where he began another career as quartermaster for the Army ROTC on BYU campus, and where he also taught hunter safety.

Wayne loved his family, his country, and his church and was devoted through service to all three throughout his life. He accepted every calling and served in many capacities in wards and branches around the world with great, unwavering faith.

He valued his health and strength; therefore, the trials of old age were especially difficult for him. Yet, even through the fog of dementia, Wayne always knew his children and never let any of them leave his presence without hearing the words, "O how I love you. How I love you!"

Good-bye our dear old cowboy, O how we love you!

"Ride them horses!"

Wayne is survived by his three daughters, Martine Johnson (Verlin), Claudette Rush (Chuck) and Margaret Paramore; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Micheline; his cherished son, Czar; two grandsons, Ben Rush and Sam Rush; and one granddaughter, Danielle Johnson.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 7th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Camp Williams Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post #72.
