EMIL CARROLL, 77, died Wednesday evening, September 17, 2008, at his home.

Born April 20, 1931, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, he was the son of Tom and Ruthie Holbrook Carroll. He retired from Armco Steel and was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 169. He was a former Madison Township Trustee and former Richland County Bee Inspector. Emil attended Real Life Community Church. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #9943, where he was Past Commander and current Trustee, Sons of Herman, Fraternal Order of the Eagles #336, Moose Lodge #341, Shiloh Masonic Lodge #544, F. & A.M., 32nd Degree Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton. Emil served his country in the U.S. Army and with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was affectionately known as "Popsey" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two children, Carolyn Roy Cyrus and Michael Jenny Carroll, all of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Julie J.T. Wilcox of Mansfield, Joe Kelli Cyrus of Lexington, Nikki Ron Hopson of Cincinnati and Matt Barnes of Mansfield; three great-grandchildren, Blake Cyrus, Luke Cyrus-Hollinger and Addison Cyrus; three brothers, Norm Carroll of CA, Argus Leolla Carroll of Ontario, Kenneth Loretta Carroll of Mansfield; four sisters, Emma Eury Barker of Olive Hill, KY, Bertha Blevins and Susie Blevins, both of Mansfield, Evelyn Greenhill of KY; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friend, Katrena Cline of Mansfield.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 54 years, Clarice Cline Carroll; daughter, Linda Diane Carroll; parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors with Masonic services at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Green officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery with military rites presented by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison Township Fire Department.
