Dean was the son of Stand Hummingbird and Margie Bailey. He was an ordained deacon and member of the West Eufaula Indian Baptist Church. He had been a resident of the Veteran's Center in Claremore for the past six years. He is survived by four daughters, Betty July and Patsy Harjo, both of Tulsa, Barbara Lena of Eufaula, and Lillian Wilson of Okmulgee; three sons, Dean David Deere and Dan Deere, both of Tulsa, and Larry Deere of Eufaula. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Greenwood Deere.
