Peters Gene "Pete", 77, of Avilla, died January 30, 2006 at Parkview Noble Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Avilla and LaOtto areas, he was born to Raymond and Hazel (Campbell) Peters on November 2, 1928. He graduated from Avilla High School in 1946. He married Donnabell Mae Miller on November 1, 1958 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Avilla. She died May 27, 1982. He married Lillian (Juengel) Rasler on August 29, 1987. She died December 15, 1996. He is survived by 2 sons, Brett (Pam) Peters of Avilla and Chad (Lynda) Wappes of Kendallville; one daughter, Sherry (James) Woodward of Garrett; one sister, Chloe Davis of Fort Wayne; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was a post commander of American Legion Post #240 and past northern vice commander of the State of Indiana American Legion. He was a member of the 40 & 8 organization, Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne and Huntertown F&AM Lodge. He was the owner and operator of Pete's Shell Station from 1957 to 1977; co-owned LaOtto Realty & Auctioneering until 1984; and served as Allen Twp trustee for several years. Services at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla with military graveside services by American Legion Post 240. ~ 2-9-2006
