Thomas M. Loughery
Age 91, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in 1918.
Tom proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1946. Prior to his military service, he graduated from Drexel University as a Mechanical Engineer and in 1955 earned his Master's Degree in the same field.
He had a distinguished career as a Senior Engineer at Philadelphia Electric for 32 years. He worked in gas system piping and steam heating. While working at PECO, Tom was also an Associate Professor in the Engineering College at Drexel University from 1947 to1992.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Loughery (nee Nash) and three children, Rosemary Loughery of Medford, NJ, Cindy Loughery (Sister Rose Andrea, SSJ) of Newtown Square, PA, and Andi Chernekoff (Art) of Wilmington, DE. Tom was also blessed with two grandchildren, Amy and Mark Chernekoff.
Relatives and friends will gather on Monday, October 4 at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 at 10:00 am. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph Development Office, 9701 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118.
