John Freehafer was born 12 June 1810 in Heldelberg Township, Berks County, Pennsylania, son of Christian and Elizabeth Schaeffer Freehafer. He migrated to Ohio with his parents before May 1834 when his father purchased land in Wayne Township, Wayne County, Ohio. He married Barbara Ann Seifried in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio 3 May 1838. The family moved to Worthington Township, Richland County Ohio and then in November 1866 John, Barbara and their family migrated to Jackson Township, Huntington County, Indiana. John Freehafer was a woodworker and a veterinarian. He died 2 August 1893 at Roanoke, Jackson Township, Huntington County, Indiana, age 83 years 1 month and 21 days.
