Walter Summer Smith, 78, of Marble died on April 2, 1969 at Madison County Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at Lower Campground Church with Rev. Floyd Spurlock officiating. Burial was in Lower Campground Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home. He was born on August 19, 1890 in Marble, the son of Robert Alfred and Abby Ann (Newman) Smith. He married Dora Ellen Hargis on October 21, 1913 in Marble. He is survived by his wife, Dora; his sons, Arval Loy Smith of Kingston, and Coy Kenneth Smith and Donald Gene Smith, both of Marble; his daughters, Bessie Middleton, Ida Fay McDaniel, Irene Goldie Carter, and Mary Ellen Rowlins, all of Huntsville, and Lillian Dee Binam and Oneida Pearl Cope, both of Marble; his sisters, Lotha Pearl Miller of Cave Springs and Quixie Joyce Hudspeth of Marble; forty one grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
