STAUNTON-Mattie Herron Estes, 79, formerly of 3955 Rockfish Road, Grottoes, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at King's Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Staunton. She was born April 28, 1930, in Crimora, the daughter of the late Ulysses Grant and Catherine Gretchen Lotts Herron.
Mrs. Estes retired as a housekeeper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters. Survivors include three sons, Michael Estes and his wife, Dolores, of Stuarts Draft, Kevin Estes of Grottoes and Jonathan Estes and his wife, Denise, of Grottoes; two daughters, Linda McDaniel and her husband, Robert, of Crimora and Becky Shifflett of Waynesboro; three sisters, Phyllis Ross and Polly Herron of Staunton and Mollie Maxey of Waynesboro; as well as a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Estes request, all services will be private.
The family would like to express special gratitude to Dr. Christopher Heck and the staff at King's Daughters' Community Health and Rehabilitation Center and Augusta Medical Center for their loving care and concern.
The Wayensboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
