U. Grant Herron, 66, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at his home, Route 1, Crimora, after a long illness.
Mr. Herron was employed at Wayne Manufacturing Corp. for 20 years before his retirement several years ago due to ill health. He was a member of the Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren and last member of his immediate family.
Born April 19, 1892, in Augusta County, Mr. Herron was a son of the late Bernard Lee and Lou Craig Herron.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katherine Gretchen Lotts Herron; six daughters, Ruby Herron, Mrs. Mary Smith, Crimora, Mrs. Hattie Allen and Mrs. Phyllis Ross, both of Waynesboro; Mrs. Mattie Estes, Grottoes, and Miss Pauline Herron, at home; one son, Ronnie Herron, at home; one step-son, Lawrence Moneymaker; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Etter Funeral Home by the Rev. James McAvoy, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy Ross. Interment will be in the Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren cemetery, Crimora.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Alford, Lee Brown, Owen Estes, Howard Estes, Edward Hammer and John Dooms.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde E. Carter, D. F. McCourry, George McCourry, William T. Sharp, L. F. Eutsler, Hiram O'Baugh, John Parr, Norman Sandridge, Lawrence Allen and Herschel Bridge.
