Funeral services will be held Thursday for Martin Conrad, 74, of nine miles northwest of Decatur, who dies at 1:40 p.m. Monday at the Adams county memorial hospital, 40 minutes after he was injured when his northbound auto went out of control and crashed on a curve on U.S. 27 highway 27, one mile north of Coppess Corner.
Mr. Conrad suffered a crushed chest, severe head injuries and a broken leg. He was Adams county’s first traffic fatality since last October.
A lifelong resident on the same farm in Preble township, he was born Nov. 21, 1889, a son of Henry and Anna Mittelkamp Conrad. He was married to Miss Frieda Bauermeister April 24, 1915.
Mr. Conrad, a retired farmer, was a member of theZion Lutheran church at Friedheim.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Adelbert and Waldo Conrad, both of Decatur route 1, and Marvin Conrad of Decatur route 2; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Waneta) Franz of Monroeville route 2; one sister, Mrs. Louise Buck of Fort Wayne, and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Zwick funeral home and at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church at Friedheim. The Rev. A. A. Fenner will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today until time of the services. (Tues. Feb. 4, 1964)
