William Casper Cooper

The entire community was shocked last week when it became known that W.C. Cooper had passed away at the St. Francis hospital at Wichita where he was taken Tuesday afternoon for medical treatment. William Casper Cooper was born June 21, 1861, in Iowa City, Iowa, died July 12, 1922. His boyhood days were spent in Iowa. At the age of sixteen he came with his parents, the late Casper Cooper and wife, and settled in Kansas. He was united in marriage to Miss Lorena Strong at Nashville, Kans., March 8, 1892. To this union were born five children, Raymond, Vinton, Dave, Wayne and Gertrude. Wayne preceded his father in death almost eight years. Mr. Cooper had owned and resided continously on his present farm home sixteen years. His honest and upright life had won for him the confidence and esteem of all who had the privilege of his acquaintance. In the loss of this man the family have suffered an irreparable loss, the community a worthy citizen who it was an honor to know, whose worth cannot be estimated nor fully understood. No man, woman or child needing aid was ever turned away from his door empty handed and all knew him to be their friend. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and four children, four grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Cooper, who now lies at the point of death, three brothers, Bert, Earnest and Ben Cooper, one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Niverson. One brother, the late David Cooper, preceded him in death seven and a half months ago. Two sisters Mattie and Nettie dying in early life. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the M.E. church, Rev. B.E. Parker of the Christian church of Anthony officiating. Interment was made at the Singer cemetery in the family lot. The minister read Tennysons "Crossing the Bar," and offered prayer at the grave. Flower girls were Mabel Grove, Agnes Albert, Gladys Small, Agnes Misak, Florence Cantwell and Esther Davis. Pall beareres were W.E. Babb, Frank Misak, Clarence Clift, Edd Cantwell, Chas. McCormick and Mr. Getz.
