"Death of Orrville Couple Is Ruled Murder-Suicide
BY DARLENE CROSKEY
An Orrville couple, Robert and Vera Henderson were found dead Thursday afternoon in their home, the victims of a murder-suicide.

Deputy Wayne Co. Coroner Elton Lehman has rules that Vera Henderson's death was a homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds, while Robert Henderson died of a self-inflicted sunshot wound to the head.

Orrville police received a call Thursday at 1:54 p.m. from Orrie Gresser of Gresser Funeral Home advising them of a possible shooting at the Henderson residence at 817 Cleveland Ave.

Receives Call
According to police, Gresser told them he had received a call from Henderson who told Gresser, "I just shot Vera, and I'm not going to prison for it. I'm going to shoot myself, so you can just come and get us both."

Police responded immediately, going into the home with Gresser and his assistant. The Hendersons were found dead in their living room.

Police said a .38 caliber revolver was found at Mr. Henderson's side.

The police learned after interviewing several friends and neighbors of the couple that they had a long history of fighting between the two of them.

The Hendersons were well known in Orrville as they had owned and managed a service station in downtown Orrville for 25 years until their retirement in 1968.

Double Service
Double funeral services will be held at Gresser Funeral Home, Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Howard Patrick oficiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7-9 p.m.
