Herbert was working for Buick Motor Company at time of his death. He died from coronary thrombosis. I was also was told he had Pernicious Anemia by my mother who was Vivian V. Foster step-daughter of Herbert Monks.

Herbert Monks born 24 Jan. 1874 Saranac, Ionia Co., MI., parents John Monk and Emma Switzer of Petersborgh, Ontario, Canada. Herbert spent his youth in Saranac, Ionia Co., MI. As adult moved to Detroit, MI., worked for Studebaker and Flint, MI., worked for Buick. He married 1/w Ella B. Murray 11 Nov. 1899 Ionia, MI., d/o John A/ Murray and Mary L. Jones. He married a 2nd time to Julia Dumas Cousin-Couzzins 29 July 1909 Ionia, Ionia Co., MI., her parents names were Julius Clinton Dumas and Mary Comstock of Addison Co., Vermont. He and Julia adopted a son called Robert A. Monks b. 1910 Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Michigan. After Herbert divorced Julia E. (Dumas), Garron, Simon, Monks she moved to Glens Falls, Warren Co., NY and had adoptive son Robert A Monks use her maiden name Dumas so he was known as Robert A. Dumas FAG#176294238 the rest of his life. Robert A. Dumas moved to Queensbury, Warren Co., New York and married Marion M. Corlew, had two children: Janice and James R. Dumas who were twins b. 15 Nov. 1940.

Elfa Rose Babcock b. 3 Aug. 1877 White Cloud,Newaygo Co., MI., d/o Henry Truman Babcock Civil War Veteran-Wisconsin buried Michigan Veterans Home Cemetery, Grand Rapids,MI and Mrs. Tilla V (Pope) Billings,Babcock.

He was step-father to Vivian V. Foster m. Virgil C. Teague. Elfa was a twin with Alta Rose (Babcock) Kinska. Pope's were early settlers in 1836 of Janesville, WI when it was a Territory. Babock's also lived
in Janesville, Rock Co., Wisconsin before moving to Denver Twp., Newaygo Co., Michigan.

Herbert and Elfa Rose Babcock, Foster, Monks buried in Fairplains Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. Buried near by is her sister Alta Rose and husband Charles Kinski.
