Monroe, Utah - Neal Christian Torgersen, 81, of Monroe, died September 21, 2010 in Monroe of complications from a fractured pelvic bone and Alzheimer's Disease. He was born October 7, 1928 a son of Christian Franklin and Eva Slack Newby Torgersen of Monroe.

Neal was born and raised in the Sevier Valley. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1946. He was called to and served an honorable mission to Norway. It was in Norway where he met his future wife, Gerd Odlaug Floen. They were married in Haugesund, Norway after Neal's mission in 1953. Neal and Gerd are the parents of 4 sons, Thomas Torgersen (deceased); Ronald Torgersen, Palmdale, California; Troy Torgersen (Lynne), Monroe, Utah; Torin Torgersen (Janice), Clemmons, North Carolina. They have 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Two weeks after returning from his mission, he was drafted into the US Army where he gladly served his country in Germany for 2 years. He achieved the rank of Sergeant.

Neal had a love of learning and pursued a degree in Education from the University of Southern Utah. He worked his entire career in California for the Keppel Union School District. where he had positions as a teacher and later a principal and administrator. He later earned a Master's Degree from Weber State.

He also had a great love of the outdoors, animal wildlife, photography, and hiking. He was a great family historian and worked tirelessly researching and documenting family history.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 1, 2010 at 11:00 A.M in the Monroe LDS Stake Center, 140 South Main Street in Monroe. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West in Richfield Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.,or at the Stake Center in Monroe, Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Monroe American Legion Post #32 and the Utah Honor Guard, will be in the Monroe City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina.
