Her husband Albert took the children to town to the carnival. In the afternoon Albert sent his oldest daughter Laura home to help his wife cook dinner. When she got home she found her mother on the floor, burned from the fire. Her clothing had caught fire from a wood cooking stove. She was expecting another child at the time. They both died. Because of their mothers early death the children grew up all over Michigan with other relatives and close friends of the family.
