Carter Sterling Carlton of Miami, OK passed away Friday September 24, 2010 at his home after an illness. He was 78.

Mr. Carlton was born October 16, 1931 in Oswego, KS to Judge C. S. and Ellen (Carter) Carlton.

He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces 4th Division during the Korean Conflict.

He had lived in Miami for the past 47 years. Carter had worked as a musician in various cities in Kansas and as a disc jockey in Alabama and Mississippi. He worked for many years as a salesman for Miami Sales and Westco in Miami.
Carter was a member of the Bethany Christian Church in Miami, OK and Gideons International. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister Etta Long.
He married Evelyn Campbell on April 8, 1967 in Fairland, OK. She survives of the home.
He is also survived by a son, Mark Carlton of Tulsa, OK.
Funeral Services will be Monday September 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Christian Church in Miami, OK. Pastor Ron Eden will officiate. Pallbearers will be John Hadley, Randy Brumley, John Lowery, Brent Brassfield, Charles Martin and Blaine Lyons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Cordell, Marvin Cantwell, Gene Maughan, Alvin Thomas, Francis Whitesell, Delmer Burris and Mike Lillie. Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland, OK. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Memorials are suggested to Gideons International or Bethany Christian Church in care of the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami, OK.
