Details of the accident were not made public by the War Department but his parents were informed that the young seaman was injured while driving a motorcycle from the hospital to his home in the civilian sector of the Italian town Dec. 16.
He was born in Midvale, March 21, 1931, a son of Floyd G. & Hazel Tapp. He attended Woodstock School and joined the U.S. Navy March 21, 1948.
He had served three years in the South Pacific before being assigned to the naval hospital in Italy as a baker.
He married Tina Speranzo in Afriogola, June 18, 1953, and had been living in a home in the town near the hospital.
Survivors include his parents, his wife and an infant daughter Deanna Hazel Tapp, both of Italy, three brothers, Donald Tapp, Union, Jackie and Steven, South Cottonwood, and a sister Connie, South Cottonwood.
Funeral services are pending arrival of the body at 4760 S. State, Murray.
