Porter Manges, who has been working in Shade township, met with a serious accident last Friday morning. Mr. Manges, L.D. Sine and several other gentlemen had gone to the former's home near St. Clairsville, Bedford County, for a few days visit. Saturday morning they concluded to go hunting and while engaged at loading cartridges one of them exploded in Manges' hand, tearing off several of his fingers and lacerating his left palm frightfully. A small section of the cartridge struck Manges above the right arm inflicting an ugly gash three inches long. A physician from St. Clairsville was called in to dress the sufferer's wounds and at last reports he was getting along nicely. The accident resulted from attempting to drive a primer into a shell already too heavily charged.
