R. H. Carter, the shoemaker in opera block, received a telegram last evening from Weldon, Illinois stating briefly that his wife's brother Harvey Swim had been suffocated by gas in a well, and that the funeral would take place on Thursday. The deceased was forty years and leaves a widow and child in good circumstances.
Clinton: October 18--Harvey Swim, a thrifty farmer in the neighborhood of Weldon, Illinois, while digging a well on his farm, struck gas at the depth of thirty feet. Mr. Swim was in the bottom of the well at the time and before relief could reach him, he was partially overcome. He was drawn up in a half conscious state, but when within fifteen feet of the surface his head loosened and he fell back dead.
She died in the State Hospital for Insane, Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois.
Two known children: Claretta "Jennie" Jane Swim and William Deamus Swim.
