Ellen Jonsdotter Carlson (Elna Jonsdotter in Swedish) was born in Östra Sallerup near Malmo, Southern Sweden. Her father was Jöns Andersson b. Aug. 1, 1803 and her mother was Bolla Mansdotter b. Dec. 28, 1794. Ellen and her family were Swedish Baptist.

Ellen was the 3rd of the 5 following children.

She met and married, Peter Carlson (Per Carlsson in Swedish). Her husband, Peter Carlson of Tolanga, Sweden was the son of Carl Åkesson (1803-1871) and Bengta Carlsdotter who lived in Sweden.

Ellen and Peter were married in Tolanga, Sweden.

On April 14, 1869 Ellen and Peter and their children, Elna (age 6) Charles Henry (age 3 1/2) and John ( age 1) and their housemaid Hanna Nilsdotter emigrated to America and settled in Ortonville, Big Stone Lake, Minnesota. On May 4, 1896, Peter and Ellen Carlson deeded 1.07 acres for a cemetery of the Swedish Baptist Church of Big Stone Ceter. The Big Stone (Swedish) Baptist Church was located in Big Stone Township across the road from Thielke Lake. Nothing exists today after the congregation disbanded, except the record of the deed. *

The length of time they stayed in Ortonville is not known, but we know their children were married and had children before the families moved out west to Ferndale, WA, where their grandchildren grew to adulthood.
