She met and married, Peter Carlson (Per Carlsson in Swedish). Her husband, Peter Carlson of Tolanga, Sweden was the son of Carl Åkesson (1803-1871) and Bengta Carlsdotter who lived in Sweden.

On April 14, 1869 Ellen and Peter and their children, Elna (age 6) Charles Henry (age 3 1/2) and John ( age 1) and their housemaid Hanna Nilsdotter emigrated to America and settled in Ortonville, Big Stone Lake, Minnesota. On May 4, 1896, Peter and Ellen Carlson deeded 1.07 acres for a cemetery of the Swedish Baptist Church of Big Stone Ceter. The Big Stone (Swedish) Baptist Church was located in Big Stone Township across the road from Thielke Lake. Nothing exists today after the congregation disbanded, except the record of the deed. *
