Daughter of the late Carmen Alan Williamson and Edna Joe Youngblook, she was a 1951 graduate of South Park High School in Beaumont, TX. She received her BA degree in 1971 from Georgia State University with a major in political science and a minor in history. She graduated from Emory Law School in 1977. She was a member of the Georgia Bar Association. She was a member of the League of Women Voters. She was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church where her funeral was held on August 27, 2010, with The Rev. Louis Miller officiating. She was survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack Newhard; daughters, Cynthia Deakin (Tom)and Kathy Whitmer (Bobby); grandchildren, Laura Deakin, Michael Deakin, Chris Deakin, Johnathan Whitmer and James Whitmer; sisters, Elaine Dodgen, Mildred Kyle, Carmen Cudd and Ann Turner; brother, Don Williamson; and an extended family of relatives and friends.
