Son of Richard and Elizabeth (Pence) Hesselgesser. Married (1) Eliza Jane Plummer on 09 Sep 1864.
Married (2) Juetta Armina Dear on 1 Nov 1878 in Logan County, OH. Father of Dwight b. 1888 and Arthur Samuel b. 3 Dec 1890.

Word has been received here of the death of Samuel Hessel, 82, retired farmer and father of George and Marvin Hessel of Troy, which occurred at 3 o'clock Wednesday morning in his home near Christiansburg. Death ended after two months of suffering from complications due to the infirmities of age.
Surviving are the widow, Etta Deer Hessel, six children, the two sons residing in this city, Mrs. Gus Barber of Springfield, Mrs. Edward Curtis of St. Paris, Arthur Hessel of near Alcony and Dwight Hessel, residing at home with his parents, on the Alonzo Thackara farm, and one brother, John Hessel of Urbana.
Mr. Hessel was born in Tremont City, but had spent the majority of his life near Christiansburg. He was married to Etta Deer 49 years ago and the couple would have celebrated their golden wedding next fall had not death intervened. the decedent was a staunch Baptist and was a member of the Honeycreek Baptist church.
The funeral service will take place at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Hessel home. Rev. Samuel Furrow of Urbana will conduct the obsequies. Burial will be made in the cemetery at Millerstown.
