Alfred Thoman of Kemmerer, Wyoming Dies in Utah
Alfred Thoman, 72, of Kemmerer, Wyo. passed away May 23 at Murray, Utah of heart failure. He was born Oct 1, 1884, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He went to Salt Lake City at the age of six with his parents, Hannah Nilsdotter of Skane, Sweden and Alfred Thoman, where his father went to work as a carpenter on the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His first home was where the Hotel Utah now stands.
When a youth he worked on his father's farm at South Jordan. At the age of 17 he worked as an apprentice for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in Salt Lake City and later worked for the Utah Power and Transit Co. as a street car conductor. He moved to Evanston where he was employed with the Hatch Sheep Co. and for several years made Evanston his home. While working there for the Dan Mackey Sheep Co. he put his earnings into the sheep business and in 1917 moved to Kemmerer , Wyoming where he and his brother Bill and two other partners formed the Standard Sheep Co. Their herds ranged in summer near Smoot where he met and married Floetta Clark of Smoot, Wyoming who survives him.
Also surviving are a daughter Betty Erikson of Murray, Utah, and two sons, Alfred C. of Kemmerer WY and Del Mar of Palo Alto Calif.
Impressive funeral services were held at Murray, Utah on Monday May 27, 1957. Among those attending were Mr and Mrs William I. Gomm of Ogden, Mr and Mrs Thomas Gomm of Fresno, Calif., and many other relatives and friends.
