Ida Minish was born in Wilkes County, North Caroline February 20, 1868 and died Sunday, May 12, 1918 aged 50 years. She was widow twice by death.
First married to Rufus Winkler, to which two boys born, both of whom are living and are in the service of the U.S. H.A. Winkler, her elder son, was here on a ten day furlough to see the last of his mother. The younger one, Rufus Winkler, is on his way to France.
The second husband was John Minish, who died at Lenoir, North Carolina 9 years ago. Mrs. Minish came to Oklahoma eight years ago and has resided here since. She was laid to rest in the Carnegie Cemetery Monday, the funeral being held from the Methodist church, South, by the pastor, Rev. H.L. Shelton.

Mrs. Ida Minish, daughter of the late James Melton, of Yadkin Valley, died Sunday, May 12th, at her home near Carnegie, Okla. Deceased was about 50 years of age. She formerly lived in Lenoir, removing to the west 6 years ago. She was married twice. From her first marriage two sons, Rufus and Augustus Winkler, survive, both being in the US army. Her last husband died in Lenoir before she went west. First husband was Rufus Lee Winkler; second husband was John W. Minish. Sons were Henry Augustus Winkler and Rufus Lenoir Winkler. Ida V Melton is the daughter of James G Melton and Ann Foster.
She is a sister to Martha Jane Melton.
Their mother, Ann, was well known in Wilkes County, NC as the lover of Tom Dula (sometimes spelled Dooley - as in the songs). She is suspected of having murdered her cousin, Laura Foster out of jealousy for her relationship with Tom. Tom was hanged for the crime.
Ann died in 1871, likely of syphilis.
There is a very interesting book on the story, written by Sharyn McCrumb - called The Ballad of Tom Dooley.
I haven't yet found her father's grave. It is thought her mother is buried in Wilkes county, NC.

Suggested edit: How is Ida's birthdate possible when her mother, Anne, was incarcerated between 1866 and 1868? Another source says 1871. Also other sources say her mother, Anne, died from the injuries of a wagon accident.
