Ivol Tently Swearengin

Ivol Tently Swearengin, 95, Bruner, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010 at Magnolia Square in Springfield.

He was born January 15, 1915 in John's Mill, Missouri (now Fordland), the son of the late Jesse W. and Elsie M. (Roberts) Swearengin. He was united in marriage on January 10, 1942 in Ozark, Missouri to Deloris O. McMurry. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Ivol's career included railroad, construction, and dairy farming. He was known for having a compassionate and giving heart for his family, friends and neighbors. He was a long time member and deacon of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Fordland. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Swearengin; four brothers, twin - Iven, Floyd, Loid and Virgil Swearengin; four sisters, Lola Williams, Ammie (Amma) Cornelison, Erma Breedlove and Lacie Hartgrove.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Davis and husband Mike, Rogersville; a daughter-in-law, Sue Swearengin, Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Nevin Swearengin, San Diego, CA; Nathan Swearengin and wife Rachel, Olathe, KS; Shera Cookston and husband Chris, Prineville, OR; Tara Fisher and husband Brandon, Rogersville; and Chris Davis and wife Lauren, Westminister, CO; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Julia and Luke Swearengin; Kobe and Brooklynn Fisher; a sister-in-law, Mary Swearengin and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2010 in Union Chapel Baptist Church near Fordland, under direction of J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the funeral home.
