Virgil Swearengin, 85, Rogersville, passed away at 4:53 p.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in St. John's Regional Health Care Center. He was born March 14, 1924, in Bruner, Missouri, the son of the late Jesse W. and Elsie M. (Roberts) Swearengin. He was united in marriage on July 19, 1947, in Sparta, Missouri, to Mary E. Swearengin. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Virgil was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star World War II Army veteran. He was a farmer and built homes for over 35 years. As a member of Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene, he enjoyed his ministry as a door greeter. He loved being with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary; three daughters, Diane Kisner and husband Rich, Rogersville; Kay Fleming and husband Bob, Seymour, and Sue Arnold and husband, Max, Nixa; two sons, Eddie Swearengin, Ozark, and Gary Swearengin and wife, Jennifer, Nixa; a brother, Ivol Swearengin, Springfield; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009, in Harvest Community Church of the Nazarene, 379 Redbud, Rogersville, under direction of J.D. Lee and Sons Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery, south of Fordland.
