Samuel Carr was born in Mount Holly, N.J., and died in Marlborough, Stark Co., Ohio. In 1808 at the ageo of 20, he went west to Damascus, Columbiana County, Ohio to join his cousin Thomas French. He bought land in Damascus, married the French's ward Patience Thomas, a native of Contentinea, N.C. Samuel worked as a farmer and brick maker. He built a house which still stands in Damascus.
They had ten children, including four who died in infancy. In 1834, the family moved to Marlborough in Stark County, Ohio where Samuel and Patience lived the rest of their lives.

m. Sophia Lynn in 1865
Moved to Kosciusko Co., Ind. in 1851

Ann Carr Gruwell: b. 1819; d. 1889
m. Moses Gruwell in in 1836
Moved to Cedar County, Ia.

m. Lovina Swartz in 1848

Francis (Frank) Carr: b. 1823; d. 1906
m. Jane (Jenny) Vaughn in 1845
Lived in Marlboro. Moved to Marshalltown, Ia. after the death of his wife.

Esther Carr Thomas: b. 1826; d. 1904
m. David Thomas in 1851
Lived in Marlboro.

Hannah Carr Brantingham: b. 1832; d. 1899
m. John Brantingham in 1849
