If Oleta Rossie Tindell Wilson could have chosen her epitaph, it would probably state that she was a good mother. Her children agree and chose Proverbs 31:28 "Her children call her blessed," which was inscribed on her headstone. Oleta Rossie Tindell was born 8 Mar 1915 in Noma, Holmes, Florida, the 5th of 9 children by William Lee ‘Willie' Tindell, b. 7 Feb 1883, Bonifay, Holmes, Florida; and Alma Leona Smith Tindell, b. 14 Mar 1888, Bainbridge, Decatur, Georgia.

Oleta's oldest sister, Monett May Tindell died of typhoid fever at age 6 in 1913, 2 years before Oleta was born. Noma, Florida, was then and still is a small town, but Oleta always loved being a Holmes County girl. She was 10 when her sister, Wynell ‘Nell' Tindell, was born and 13 when the last child, brother Carlton David Tindell was born. She was a huge help to her mother in raising her 2 youngest siblings. Later she told her own children stories about playing 3-court basketball in school. She was a member of Noma Missionary Baptist Church in Noma Florida.

She met a soldier boy and fell in love, and on 4 Oct 1941, in Phenix City, Russell, Alabama, married Delmar Eugene Wilson, b. 16 Feb 1916, Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau, Missouri; d. 18 Mar 1972, San Jose, Santa Clara, California. Their first child, William Eugene Wilson, was born 2 Oct 1942, Fort Benning, Georgia, 2 days before their first anniversary. They called him ‘Gene' after her favorite cowboy, Gene Autry. The next 5 years would find them in a small military apartment at Baker Village in Fort Benning. Since her husband was in the military during World War II, he was gone much of the time. Oleta's parents' home in Noma, Florida, was often ‘home' for brief periods for her and her young family, especially when her husband was deployed.

Their second child, Elsa Maria Wilson, was also born at Fort Benning, Georgia, on 17 Sep 1946. The family then moved and enjoyed a red brick house on Clearview Circle in Columbus, Muscogee, Georgia, for about 1 year. Third child, Jerry Wayne Wilson, was born 31 Oct 1947; and in 1949 the family moved to an old ranch outside of Copperas Cove, Bell, Texas. Oleta's husband was stationed at Killeen Air Force Base, Fort Hood, Bell, Texas. Then 1 year later, the family moved into military base housing at KB Heights in Killeen, Bell, Texas. Their last 2 daughters were born in Texas: Ileta Wynell Wilson Wilson, b. 18 Feb 1950; d. 15 Oct 1996, Sonora, Tuolumne, California; and Betty Kathlyn Wilson Bell Badarak Margis Silva, b. 6 Aug 1951.

Several more family moves included Sandia Air Force Base in Albuquerque New Mexico, Montgomery Alabama, Noma Florida, New Orleans Louisiana, and San Jose California. San Jose found them in Cambrium Park in a new house, which they lost 3 years later when her husband was fired by his employer, Almaden Vineyards, after he suffered a brain aneurysm at age 48. Following unsuccessful surgery, he was transferred to a nursing home, where he lingered for 8 years.

Following in their father's footsteps, Oleta's 2 sons both joined the military to serve their country—Gene in the U.S. Marine Corps and Jerry in the U.S. Army. That definitely gave Oleta more to pray about when they were both in Vietnam at the same time in the late 1960's.

Over the years Oleta never complained and learned to trust in the Lord. She learned to be good at pinching pennies and stretching dollars by adding water to the soup, making pancake syrup with sugar water and coffee, and serving lots of spaghetti. She decided she had cooked enough meals, so enjoyed giving up that job. She discovered she liked to oil paint in her later years. Her sewing skills were always useful for her family as well as herself and friends. As her health began to decline, she lived in Sonora, Tuolumne, California, with daughter Ileta until Ileta's untimely death in 1996; then with daughter Maria in Glen Oaks, Queens, New York, as well as Noma Florida in the old family dwelling; and then to a nursing home in Graceville, Holmes, Florida.

Her Lord Jesus called her Home on 19 Mar 2002 from Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Houston, Alabama. She died exactly 30 years +1 day after her beloved husband. She had lived in a lot of places, but her last earthly move brought her full circle back to Noma, Florida, where she is buried in the Brown, Bush & Tindell Cemetery.
