On November 8, 1881, he and Emelie Scheid married. They purchased a 166 acre parcel near Hunt's Corners, later known as Maple Ridge Farm. As the years went by, they had eight children and with the help of their sons, were able to purchase nearly 200 acres more. Each son had a home on the farm and engaged in farming and raising livestock.
Daniel was an officer in many different enterprises including the Farmers and Citizens Banking Company of Monroeville, Heyman Milling Company of Monroeville (makers of Roller Chief Flour), E.W. Armstrong Milling Company, Sherman Oil and Gas Company of Huron County, and Lyme Mutual Light and Power Company. He also served as Township Trustee for 25 years, on the Hunt's Corners School Board for 18 years and helped organize the Huron County Agricultural Society. Further he was a leading member and officer of the church where he was confirmed as a youth.
