Obituary of Mrs. Joseph Gondreau as published in the Henderson Independent Newspaper, Sibley County, Minnesota, August 1944.

Mrs. Joseph Gondreau, 72, died suddenly at her home in St. Paul of a heart attack on August 7, 1944, at 4:30 p.m. She had been in failing health since January.

Mary Louise Chevalier Gondreau was the daughter of Louis and Adeline Chevalier, born in Jessenland Township on December 11, 1871, and united into marriage to Joseph Hercules Gondreau on January 8, 1895, at St. Thomas's Catholic Church in Sibley County. Louise and Joseph lived in Henderson until April 1925 when they moved to St. Paul. Their family consisted of six children, two of whom preceded the mother in death. The oldest child, Louis Hercules, died at the age of twenty-two of influenza in WW I October of 1918 and two moths later, their second son, Mark Joseph, died at home of influenza. Louise was a religious woman. Next to her Catholic faith, her greatest joy was her family and home. She had a kind disposition and was ready to help those who needed assistance. She was a member of the Rosary Society since her marriage in 1895.

Mr. and Mrs. Gondreau would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary, January 8, 1945, which was her main interest before her death.

Left to mourn her passing are her bereaved husband, one daughter, Mrs. Bernell Osterman of St. Paul, three sons, Nels Gondreau of Henderson, Ray Gondreau of St. Paul, and Elmer Gondreau of Austin; three sisters, Mrs. John Bertrang, Miss Alice Chevalier, and Mrs. Josephine Beliveau of Henderson. Three brothers, Moses Chevalier of St. Paul, Louis Chevalier of Henderson and John Chevalier of Shevlin, Minnesota; ten grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. One grandson, George Gondreau is in the serving in the military and stationed at Camp Waldron, Farragut, Idaho.

Funeral services were held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Paul, August 10, 1944, at 9:00 a.m. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Father Devera with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Henderson. Pallbearers were James Perry, James McDonough, Frank Mikesh, Jack McHugh and George Schaus of St. Paul. John Luskey, Frank Bigauette, John Schloegel and Isador Marso of Henderson.
