MURPHY - Irene Fox Elrod, 79, of N.C., died Saturday in a Blairsville, Ga., hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, she was a member of Ranger Methodist Church. She had worked for Dan River Textile MU1 in Danville, Va. She was the daughter of the late Mark Henderson and Rachel Walker Fox and wife of Henry Elrod, who died in 1970.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Kilpatrick of Murphy; six brothers, Charlie Fox of Blairsville, Howard Fox of Murphy, Herbert Fox of Marble, Cecil and Fal Fox, both of Belmont, and Jay Fox of Clayton, Ga.; and a sister, Edith Sutton of Asheville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Townson-Rose Funeral Home, Murphy. The Rev. Jack Martin will officiate.
Burial will be in Elrod family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
