George Stevens is Laid to Rest

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for George W. Stevens, Ashtabula county pioneer and Indian fighter, from the home of his son, Timothy Stevens, 435 West St., where he died last Sunday.
The funeral was largely attended by many friends and relatives of Mr. Stevens. The entire family was present at the funeral, and many relatives from out of town attended. The floral offerings were exceptionally large and beautiful.
The Haydn quartet, composed of Hugh Coutts, first tenor; Keith Jackway, second tenor; E. R. Harley, baritone, and A. E. Budd, bass, sang: "Sometime We'll Understand" and "Some Sweet Day Bye and Bye." The quartet was accompanied by Chester Jackway at the piano.
Six sons of the deceased were pallbearers: Frank, Arthur, Edson, Leon, Norris and Timothy Stevens.
Burial was made in Edgewood cemetery. Rev. E. R. Romig of the First Methodist church of this city officiated.

From an article in the paper about his son Timothy Stevens:
Mr. Stevens said the reason his parents came to Ashtabula was because his mother's relatives were located near Hartsgrove and his parents decided to move here and purchase a farm near Sheffield. Prior to moving here his father was an overseer farmer on the reservation and his mother taught school.

He remembers that his father at various times helped in the capture of cattle thieves and one time was in the party headed by Buffalo Bill Cody.
