Cyrenius Phillips Sr.

Cyrenius E.J. Phillips Sr.,72, 9 Berry St., died at 12:05 a.m. Monday in a Rome hospital following a sudden illness.

Born in Floyd County, April 1, 1902, son of the late James W. and Winnie L. Shaw Phillips, he was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church, a retired employee of the West Pepperell Manufacturing Company and a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Pauline Willingham of Rome;two daughters, Mrs. Ken Richards of Harlem, Ga. and Mrs. Lavonne Liley of Rome;two sons, James T. Phillips of Pensacola, Fla. and Cyrenius E.J. Phillips Jr. of Baycliff, Tex.;one sister, Mrs. Bertha Galbraith of Rome; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Second Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Wallace McGill officiatring. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.

The body will lie in state from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers include Earnest Morgan, Elmer Mull, Claude Shiflett, Wallace Byars, James Barkers, Turner Youngblood, W.W. Wilson and Grover Byars.

The family will receive friends at Henderson Frazier Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at other hours will be at the residence.
