Earlene Blacksher Hicks was one of the sweetest and most kind individuals you might wish to meet. She is the daughter of Albert Jasper Blacksher and Edna Alice Cole. She married Jarrett Wilson Hicks 18 Oct 1939 and had one son, Jim. Earlene was most proud of her family's history and her copy of Blacksheariana. The farm on which she and her husband lived was homesteaded in 1877 by her great-grandfather, Newton Jasper Blacksher. Earlene was awarded the Missouri Century Farm plaque in Nov 1994 in recognition of the homestead remaining in the family for over 100 years. The farm was passed down from Newton Jasper Blacksher to his son, Newton Monroe, then passed on down to his son Albert Jasper Blacksher and then to Mrs. Earlene (Blacksher) Hicks. Jarrett W. Hicks was a member of the church of Christ. Earlene attended the church of Christ with her husband for over thirty years. After that she returned to the Baptist church which was the original place of worship for her family. Bob and Leon Blackshear visited with Earlene on her farm in 1993 and found her to be of the kindest and most pleasant disposition. The farm is nestled in the rolling hills of south central Missouri and one can fully appreciate the love and labor that has resided there over the years. Earlene was a prize guest at the Blackshear Family Reunion at Hoxie, Arkansas in 1995. Earlene had a pair of glasses worn by Isabella Dobson. Later, she stated her only child did not have an interest in genealogy and she mailed them to Leon Blackshear of Tupelo, Ms and asked Leon to take care of them.
