James is the son of Absalom Power and Sarah Ann Loyd Power. He was born in Illinois, but he grew up on a farm in Missouri with his two sisters and three brothers.

He married Sarah Elizabeth Morelock on December 22, 1881. Sarah was born on February 19, 1862 in Ohio. Her parents were Elijah Wilson Morelock and Charity Gates Morelock
James and Sarah had six children; Carrie, Olive, Nora, William, Mason and Charles.
Sarah probably died between 1893, (when her youngest child Charles was born) to 1895 (when her married his 2nd wife.) Unless of course, they divorced. To date I have no information on when she died or where she is buried.

On November 24, 1895, James, at age 41, married Cora Belle Mills, a 23 year old widow with a three year old son named Nathan Willis. Together James and Cora had four daughters; Lulu, Lois, Bessie and Thelma.

At some point the family moved to Sacramento, California, where James worked as a carpenter.

James and Cora were married 35 years before he died at the age of 75.

Cora married James T. Power on Nov 24 1895, in Humphreys, Sullivan Co. Missouri
They lived at 2210 E 13th St, Wichita Ks. Sometimes her sister, Viola Susan and her husband Samuel L Vance would live there too, but James drinking with Grandpa Vance and 'Mace' caused Viola to leave on several occasions.
Cora`s husband, James Power's brother, Mason Franklin M.F. aka Mace married Viola Susan Mills Vance about 1914, after Samuel`s death. He later left the family and stole 2 horses from Grandma.
