Muncie - Muncie-Alene (Shepherd) Lewis, 88, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born May 21, 1922, in McCreary County, Kentucky, the daughter of Elmer and Edna (Koger) Shepherd.
Alene spent her early years in Kentucky. She and her husband, Bart Ellis, moved their family to Muncie in 1953. After Bart retired from Marhoefer Packing Co., they divided their time between living in Oak Hill, Florida, in the winter months and spending time with friends and family in Muncie and camping at Dale Hollow Lake in the summer. She returned to Muncie due to failing health twelve years ago to be with her daughters.
Mrs. Lewis, a devoted mother, is survived by three of her six children, Ronnie Lewis (wife-Linda) Louisville, Kentucky; Suetta Anderson, Muncie; and Jerry Lewis (wife-Carolyn), Memphis; eight grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Lewis, Rhonda Wilson, Brent McCormick, Elizabeth Rozzi, Kimberly Murphy, Kelly Harless and B.A. Lewis; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Wilma J. Hines, Muncie; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lewis, Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bart Ellis, two sons, Joe and Eddie Lewis, one daughter, Nancy McCormick, one grandson, Randy Lewis, one great grandson, Dustin Spurgeon, three brothers, Clyde, Earl and James Shepherd and three sisters, her twin, Evelyn Bertram, Clara Shepherd and Geneva Bertram.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2010, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 1:00 p.m. on Friday until time of service.
