Oscar Fite, son of John and Susan Fite, was born near Rigdon, Grant County, Ind., Nov. 23, 1854. He was united in marriage to Ret Harvey - July 6, 1880, who preceded her husband to the beyond - Oct. 15, 1886. To this union were born two sons, one departing this life in infancy, and the other Jesse Otto, surviving the father.

On Nov. 16, 1889, he was united in marriage to Jane Kennel, who still survived the husband. To this union was born one daughter, Goldie.

While he never identified himself with the church, yet he was a firm believer and an ardent advocate of the religious faith and during his last illness often requested his friends to read to him from the Bible. He was a member of the Subordinate and the Encampment branches of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Pt. Isabel, Ind., and a member of the Improved Order of Red Men at Sims, Ind. He was a faithful member in attendance and always willing to lend his assistance in the exemplification of the ritualistic work of the orders and when sickness, sorrow or death hovered over a brother's home, he was always present and willing if possible to pour oil into the expiring lamp of life. Honest dealings with his fellow man was one of the strong features that go to make up his past life, always kind, courteous and obliging.

He leaves a wife, one son, one daughter, four sisters, four grandchildren and many friends and relatives to mourn his demise. He departed this life Feb 3, 1914, aged 50 years, 1 month, and 12 days.

His life has gone from us, and in heaven may the golden chain of friendship be united, strengthened and perpetuated.

Mr. Fite died at the home of his son in Pulaski county and the body was taken to the home of his sister, Mrs. Jane Davis, at Pt. Isabel. Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church at Pt. Isabel last Friday with the Rev. Patton officiating. Burial will be in the Knox Chapel.
