Fredus was a native of Vermont but for many years lived in Morrisonville, New York, which is where he married Pamelia. Fredus and Pamelia had 5 children. His oldest daughter, Gabriella, married Courtland Stafford and died at a young age from consumption. His youngest child was Amelia, who never married and died in Chicago. His three sons are Omar, Osborn (who moved to Kansas), and Pembroke, who moved to Nebraska with his parents.

While living in New York, Fredus was a trustee for the school district, was active in the old Whig party, and was a leader in the Republican party. He farmed over 200 acres.

Fredus and family moved to Nebraska in 1864. He died at the age of 71 years.
