A. R. HASS

A. R. Hass was born in Worth County, Mo., on June 6, 1870, and passed away at Chicago, Ill., on April 12, 1963. After spending his early years on the farm, he started his career in banking at Tingley, Iowa in 1899 as cashier of the Tingley State Bank. While living there he became a member of the Christian church.

He moved to Chariton, Iowa, in 1917 and was then associated with the Lucas County National Bank until its consolidation into the present National Bank & Trust Company. He served as president of the latter institution from 1949 until 1956 and as chairman of the board of directors from 1956 until the date of his death, although he was inactive after 1960.

He was married to Edna Hall of Tingley, Iowa, on May 28, 1902. Survivors are his wife and four children, Mrs. Helen Ream, Princeton, N.J.; Dr. Clarence E. Hass, Berkeley, Calif.; Dr. George Hass, Lombard, Ill.; and A. V. Hass, Chariton. There are 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Miss Eva Hass and Mrs. Belle Laughlin, both of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, also survive him.

His continuing devotion to his wife, his family and the career he had chosen made his life a long, happy and useful one.

Funeral services were held at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home at 2:00 April 16, 1963. The Rev. John Orange officiated at the service. Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery.
