Edward Elkinton, son of Joseph and Anna Elkinton, was born at Rockbridge, April 16, 1866, and died at his home in Chesterfield August 29, 1908 aged forty-two years, four months and thirteen days. He was the third son in a family of eight children and spent the greater part of his life at and near Rockbridge. He was converted in a meeting held by Revs. Alexander, Rhoads and Rice, and united with the Sheffield Baptist church.
He was married to Mrs. Musa Beshirs, of Roodhouse, on May 7, 1896. To this union six children were born, two sons and four daughters, one daughter, Fronia Lucile, preceded her father to the spirit land. Those who survive to mourn their loss are, Charles Edward, John Henry, Hazel Lillian, Cecil Dell, and Ethel Grace. He is survived also by his wife, a stepson, Bert Beshirs, his mother, Mrs. Anna Elkinton, a brother, Ernest, and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Campbell, the latter three residing at Springfield.
Mr. Elkinton was a quiet, industrious man, and leaves many friends who will deplore his untimely death and will sympathize deeply with his widow and children in their sad bereavement. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church here Monday at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. J. H. Harbaugh, of Chesterfield, and the burial was in the Taylor cemetery.
