He grew up in Beverly Township, Wentworth County, Ontario. On October 16, 1881 in Dundas, Ontario, Canada "Postel" was married to Rachel McKee, a daughter of George McKee and Margaret Isabel Milne.
They had at least three children together: Clara Isabelle who married Harry B. Bush then George F. Thornton; Josephine who married Fred G. Bush; and Rachel A. who married Joseph Pirutch.
For many years he and his wife ran a boarding house in Rudyard.
