At least three Clements families lived in the Manhasset-Hempstead area but another indication, since lost, was that her father might have been a trader from the Leeward Islands. "Statia" (from Eustatia) isn't a common girl's name, and one of the Leeward Islands is St Eustatius.
Statia married Thomas Mitchell at Manhasset in 1760, and had seven children with him over the next fifteen years. The family relocated to Pawling, NY during the Revolution and settled in 1795 on a 260-acre farm just south of Poughkeepsie.
Obituary in 'Poughkeepsie Journal', Sep 5, 1827: "On Saturday last, in the 89th year of her age, Mrs Eustatia Mitchell. She was esteemed and beloved by her numerous friends during her long life, and by them sincerely lamented in death"
