George Edward Coberly

George Edward Coberly, son of George (Washington) and Elizabeth Coberly, was born at Chillicothe, Mo., July 10, 1867, and passed away at his home in Humansville Sunday, April 14, 1946, at the age of 78 years and 9 months.
He moved to Polk County with his parents while a child and lived the remainder of his life in and near the Humansville community.
He was a man of sterling character, strong of conviction, kind and friendly in his relations to his fellow man, and loyal and true to his obligations.
In the year 1891 he was united in marriage to (Minerva) Anna Flint Wortham. To this union were born three sons, Samuel J., James F., and two daughters, Mrs Henry (Bertha) Mason and Mrs. Carl (Jessie) Zerkel of Humansville.
He was converted in early manhood and united with the Baptist church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. For several years he served as deacon of his church, in which office he proved a worthy servant.
For several years he had been in failing health and suffered much in his affliction but was patient and courageous in it all. He was stricken with paralysis Friday morning, April 12, and fell asleep Sunday afternoon, April 14.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, the above named children, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dr. L. J. Coberly of Seattle, Wash., Frank J. Coberly, Mountain View, Missouri, and Fred Coberly of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Hill of Chillicothe, Mo., and Mrs. Loretta Buckner of Flemington, Mo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He would not want the ones he loved
To grieve for him today;
We must not say that he is dead,
For he is just away.
Away upon a journey
To a land that's bright and fair,
And though we all will miss him here,
We know he's happy there.
And the memories of him will bring
New comfort every day.
As we recall, he is not dead,
For he is just away.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, at the Humansville Baptist church, Rev. J. E. Jackson and Rev. Clarence Wright officiating ministers. Interment was in Humansville Cemetery with E. H. Primm, funeral director, in charge; Honorary pallbearers were Ira Woodford, John Crawford, C. S. Burchett, Arthur Brown, Lewis Clayton, and W. E. Austin. Active pallbearers were T. N. Payne, O. E. Simms, Lee Stokes, Harold Estes, Raymond Crawford and Donald Youngblood.
