Lyman Sise graduated from MIT in 1886 and was an architect with Haven & Hoyt of Boston, his legacy including the "Pepperpot" bridge across the Charles River. He designed several of the original cottages at the Pinehurst, NC golf resort as well as a clubhouse addition and changes to the Holly Inn, Pine Needles, and Pinehurst developer Richard Tuft's home on Palmetto Drive.

Lyman drew creative sketches on family Christmas cards over the years and made numerous picture frames, benches, and a model of the family home at 87 Mystic Street in Medford.

He was an officer in the National Guard at the time of the Boston Police Strike. His hobbies included camping, fishing, boating and ice-boating on Mystic Lake near his home.

His left arm was paralyzed by a stroke in 1933, but he continued to make carvings by holding the work under his upper arm while carving with his right hand. He even made a wooden Noah's Ark about two feet long with carved pairs of animals, palm trees, and Noah and his family.
