Both of his parents were deceased by that time, and the best guess is that he found employment in Indiana. He was a boarder at the home of Emma Markenke in Fort Wayne, and he married Emma's younger daughter Gertrude in 1932. Irvin and Gertrude had a son Jack born in 1932.
Irvin and Gertrude moved to San Bruno, California in 1965 (for his work) and returned to Indiana in the mid 1970's. They retired to Florida a short time later.
His son introduced him to the game of golf, which he quickly developed a passion for the game. He played until a few months before his death from cancer in 1986.
