Vernon Simpson Dies in Car Wreck


Funeral seervices were held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Williams & Riley Funeral Chapel for Vernon D. Simpson, 26, who was killed in an automobile accident on the LaPorte Road out of Pasadena Sunday afternoon about 12:30. The car he was driving collided wiah another driven by Robert Cowan. Mrs. Cowan was killed also and her husband was critically injured.

Deputy Sheriff Roger Baird said that Mr. Simpson was driving toward Pasadena, and Mr. Cowan ws driving toward Houston. Mrs. Cowan was riding with her husband and Mr. Simpson was alone in his car, Baird said.

Mr. Cowan was reported to be still unconscious from a skull fracture he received in the accident. Both Mrs. Cowan and Mr. Simpson suffered broken necks.

Mr. Simpson was a machinist at Shell Oi Company's Deer Park Refinery. and served overseas for two years as a World War II veteran. He had lived at Pasadena for six years.

He is survove by a son, Kenneth Lee Simpson of Waco; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Simpson of Hamilton,and two brothers, Travis Simpson of Pasadena and Marvin of Iraan, Texas.

Elder Len Dalton conducted the rites and burial was in the New I.O.O. F Cemetery.
