"Family" accounts:
Henry Voigt was born in Baden or Alsace Lorraine about 1823/1824 (headstone says 1824). Family story: Henry was a twin. He and his brother traveled overland to New Buffalo, Ind.[Mich.], then to Chicago and then on to Sheboygan, Wis. The brothers separated - Henry returned to Chicago - his twin (name unknown) stayed in Sheboygan.

The Voigts in Chicago did not use "H" in name. Sheboygan Voights did. Henry came to America because he was "asked to leave Germany as he was an Activist against Bismarck." He married Anna ARNOLD in the mid-1800s.

According to the 1910 census Anna had 12 children, but only eight children were living. Their daughter Laura is my grandmother.

1860 census shows Henry was born in Hanover, 1870 census has him born in Baden. My mother always said Alsace... so who knows.
