William Arch Steeley was born to John Steeley Jr. and Rebecca Poindexter Steeley in Dade Co., Missouri. He married Mary Ann "Anna" Townsend in Joplin, MO, Jan 8, 1871.

They moved to Tahlequah in 1874 where they resided for thirty years; from there they moved to Leach, OK.

They had 10 children: William Perry "Paul" Steeley, Joel Mayes "Joe" Steeley, Emma Steeley Bowles, John W. Steeley, James R. "Jim" Steeley, Alice Steeley Ridling, Parilee Steeley Post, Mollie Steeley Rogers, Eva Steeley Robbins, and Sarah "Sallie" Steeley Townsend Rogers Cline.

His 7 siblings are: Major Jackson Steeley, Kair Steeley, Narcissus "Narcissa" Steeley Bowles, Arminta (Arminda) Steeley Bowles, Mary Susan Steeley Dilday Fortner Kent, Nancy Ellen Steeley, and Eliza "Liza" Steeley Rich.

He was an Odd Fellow for 19 years and a member of the Methodist Church for 25 years.
