Mrs. Amanda Moore, aged 74 years, who came to this section of Wyoming before Douglas was founded, died last Thursday morning (March 4, 1937) at the home of her son, Neale, at Sacramento, California. She had been spending the winter in California. Amanda Thomas was born at Burlington, Alabama on November 9, 1862 and as a child was taken by her parents to Texas. She was married to Lee Moore at Taylor, Texas on Jan. 4, 1883. The young couple came to the Territory of Wyoming at a time when there was little here away from the Union Pacific railroad. Mr. Moore engaged in the cattle business and they had the usual hardships that went with a frontier country. Mr. Moore died several years ago. Mrs. Moore is survived by three sons, Leroy, James Floyd and Neale S.; and a daughter, Mrs. Villa M. Irvine of Midwest. Two daughters and a son preceded her in death. (Information was obtained from her obituary in the Douglas Budget March 11, 1937 by Betty Alberts, FAG Member #47293729.)

According to distant cousin, Amanda was not born in Burlington, Elmore County Alabama. She and her twin sister, Miranda, were born in Lowndes County, Alabama. She was not taken to Texas by her parents as her father never returned from the Civil War and her mother died in 1867. Her grandmother, Elizabeth Todd Grice (at the time a widow), took Amanda and her three sisters to Texas in 1873.
