Gary died August 26, 2010 in Holladay, Utah. He resided at 297 West London Rose Circle in Soldotna, Alaska at the time of his death.

He was born in Murray, Utah on June 20, 1934 to Raymond Orson and Carrie Christensen Andrus.

The youngest child of a large and close-knit family, Gary grew up in Holladay, Utah surrounded by love and laughter. He attended Olympus High School, and served in the U.S. Army.

On February 4, 1955, he married Shirlene Mann. Gary and Shirlene moved to Alaska in 1967, where they raised their family in Soldotna, Alaska. Gary and Shirlene loved living in Alaska and made many lasting friendships at work and in the community.

Gary was a master storyteller who would talk of Alaskan hunting and fishing trips whenever they traveled to Salt Lake to visit their family and long time friends.

His sons Michael (Marquetta), Dan (Sylvia), and Tony (Leigh) survive Gary along with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and Gary's sister Beverly Handy. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Shirlene, with whom he spent fifty-five wonderful years. Also preceding him are his brothers Don, Kirk, Bud, Niles, and Steele, and also his sisters Gwen and Carol, and his grandson William Daniel Andrus.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane.
